Lost Barrel Bar & Grill

23/11/2018

There’s a neat new eatery in Norwood and it goes by the name of Lost Barrel Bar & Grill.

Located in an old heritage listed church along The Parade, Lost Barrel Bar & Grill is on a mission - to present the strip with a unique dining experience and the best charcoal grills and craft beers in the east.

Pretty achievable when their specialty is the charcoal grill stacked with steak, skewers and other premium cuts of meat such as dry aged and grain or grass fed beef. So dedicated to the grill, they even have a unique charcoal breakfast menu, a first for Adelaide.

“We serve an interesting mix of traditional and non traditional breakfast items on the grill. For tradition, the bacon is cooked over the charcoal, which adds that unique flavour. For the non traditional, there’s our Krispy Kreme donut bacon and egg roll. You read right,” manager Paul Blobel laughs.

“That’s for the adventurous,” he adds.

Lost Barrel Bar & Grill have also teamed up with Little Bang Brewing Company to pedal Pale Ale and a Cloudy Apple Cider while also making their own beer, brewed in house (yes, they have an onsite brewery!). For people who prefer gin over ales, they also stock a great range of local boutique gins. Bonus.

Diners are also in for a unique dining experience with the extensive ‘worldly’ menu brimming with an eclectic mix of bar and grill goodness. Further to the grilled meats, there is American cuisine featuring wings and burgers, Italian with wood oven pizzas (including one metre pizzas and arancini balls on pizza!), and a Spanish tapas menu influenced from American, Brazilian and Mediterranean dishes. To round out the menu, there is a kid’s menu featuring deep fried delights, ‘pub grub’ like sides, salads and schnitzels, while vegetarians and vegans (did someone say vegan beers?) are also catered for.

Aesthetically, the juxtaposition of old meets new works. True to their digs, they have kept the original stain glass windows and opulent ceilings, while modern fittings and vertical gardens kit out the rest of the building. True to their name, there is a bounty of barrels dotted about, complimented by wooden decals, all adding to the bar and grill charm.

“It really does look like a micro brewery, big vats of beers here and there like our 500 litre vats on display. There is also a big array of craft and local beer on tap. And of course, barrels… Lots of barrels! And a very relaxing deck with umbrellas and soft background music,” Paul says.

Plus, it’s the perfect backdrop for live music, which they have on Saturday nights.

“Every Saturday night we feature an acoustic artist with live acoustics. It’s such a great atmosphere in a 140-plus year old church building,” Paul says.

Continuing with the entertainment theme, there’s a Lost Barrel Bar & Grill eating challenge too. For $59, punters have 45 minutes to demolish half a chicken, 1 lamb skewer, 1 beer skewer, 2 sausages, 5 onion rings, fries, coleslaw, corn, 3 sauces and 1 litre of beer – whew! Why? For the chance to win $1000 of course (awarded to the person on the top of the leader board every 6 months)! And everyone who completes the challenge receives a Lost Barrel hat plus a $20 voucher.

Dine in and get lost in the charm, mouth-watering food and great atmosphere that Lost Barrel Bar & Grill brings.
