Learn How To Relax Like a Pro at Prana, The Parade’s New Holistic Wellness Hub

Even wellness therapists need a bit of help relaxing from time to time. It’s something that Ash Reid knows all too well, having spent sixteen years working at a range of elite spas in Adelaide and Melbourne.

“I definitely need to have a float sometimes,” she laughs, “otherwise I get too stressed out.” Float therapy is something the massage therapist began doing for her own wellbeing years ago, and when she opened her own business in 2019 she decided to include a float tank for customers.

With 360 kilos of dissolved magnesium salt to create incredibly high buoyancy, she laughs that “it's like the Dead Sea in there – it doesn't matter how large you are, you still float because of that high salt content.”

“We absorb magnesium best through our skin so you instantly feel relaxed and it’s also great for tension relief and muscle relief. And because it’s a sensory deprivation tank, it puts you in a meditative state that lets you switch off and relax your mind as well.”

A locally made float tank is the secret weapon at Prana Healing, but since moving to new premises on The Parade in January Ash has also been able to expand her offering significantly beyond that.

“We wanted to grow, and now with four rooms we’ve got space for a naturopath, an indigenous healer and a practitioner who specialises in craniosacral therapy. So it’s a real wellness hub now.”

Ash, who has a double diploma in massage and bodywork, also offers massages with a strong focus on personalised treatment. “When I worked in the bigger spas,” she recalls, “I felt that people weren't getting enough personal time. It was just about getting them in and out quickly. But here it really is like a little mini retreat in the sense that you've got more customised one on one treatment and the care factor is really there.

That care factor is what keeps her regulars coming back, and since moving to Norwood Ash has also had plenty of new clients coming in to try out her services. But there’s one offering that remains the most popular by far. “We offer a massage and float combination so you can do an hour of each, and a lot of couples really enjoy doing that together. It means you have that double effect of physical relief as well as the mental relief.”
