A suburban offshoot of East End Cellars is coming to Norwood Green

18/01/2023

Just a few months after Africola launched a sister restaurant in Norwood, beloved CBD wine bar East End Cellars has announced that it will be opening a suburban outpost on Magill Road later this year.

Billed as “a destination for wine aficionados and enthusiasts alike,” the 180 square metre premises will be slightly smaller than the flagship store and general manager Mathieu Smeysters says that customers can expect a mix of old and new. “It’s an extension of East End Cellars so it will have the same multi-faceted concept that encapsulates wine bar, fine dining, retail shop and restaurant, but we want to give the new location its own identity as well.”

Situated on the ground floor of Norwood Green, East End Cellars Norwood will offer residents a place to enjoy a cheeky glass after work, sit down for a light dinner or join an immersive tasting hosted by a winemaker. But more than that, it will provide “a meeting point for people that share a common passion, whether they have been collecting wines for 30 years or have just started their fabulous journey.”

For Norwood Green Development Director, Daniel De Conno, the new venue is merely the latest addition to the increasingly sophisticated drinking and dining scene at the city end of Magill Road. “We’re surrounded by lots of exciting places like Little Bang Brewing Co. and Ferg’s, and East End Cellars is one of the iconic beverage and food offerings in the city so this will give the community another great boutique option that’s within walking distance.”

Slated to open in the second quarter of 2023, East End Cellars Norwood will be part of the Norwood Green retail village, a ground-floor lifestyle hub with a physiotherapist, Pilates studio and bakery café that connects the development to the rest of Norwood.

“The outdoor spaces at Norwood Green have been designed to invite the other Norwood residents in,” says De Conno. “They provide a link between Magill Road and Stephen Street, and when the development is complete the land will be handed over to the Council to serve as an open-air park for the whole community.
