The final Eastside Happy Hour Live session will be the biggest ever

12/10/2021

The Lambrook Wines story begins in the Adelaide Hills, where carefully selected parcels of fruit are slowly maturing on their way to becoming elegant cool climate wines. But when owners Brooke and Adam Lampit were searching for a permanent home they looked down the hill to Norwood. Naturally, customers began enquiring about tastings so the offices and storage space were soon joined by a cellar door.

A huge mural on the wall and a sleek shipping container bar help to create a welcoming atmosphere and with space for 150 guests, there’s plenty of room for private functions and Christmas parties. But on Saturday 23 October the venue will host its most ambitious event with a special extended edition of Eastside Happy Hour that pairs Lambrook Wines with live music and a host of local food and drink producers.

“We’d been thinking of hosting a Day On The Green type event,” says Brooke, who has been in the wine industry for well over two decades. “And for this event we’ll have five different artists to keep people entertained all evening, there’ll be drinks available for purchase and the ticket also covers food.”

There’s no danger of the food getting cold on the way over from Wholly Belly, which is located just metres away. Giant pans of paella will be joined by a range of delicious wood-fired pizzas to keep everyone fed during the event, which runs from 4 until 11 pm.

Lambrook will also be pouring all fourteen of their wines on the day, from a gorgeous blushing sparkling to a sumptuous Shiraz. And because the winery is part of the Eastside Wine & Ale Trail, they’ll be collaborating with some other nearby businesses to provide a full range of locally produced beverages. That means craft gin and vodka from Australian Distilling Co. and award-winning beers from the lovable larrikins at Stepney’s Little Bang, with new happy hour specials to be announced every hour.

Alongside the culinary offerings, the outdoor stage will host five fabulous local musicians including soulful troubadour Mason Lloyde (who appeared on The Voice), Billy Bob & Alice, Breezin, The Cast and Zkye & Damo.

Vocalist Zkye Compson-Harris, who used to live in Norwood, is a regular at local venues including the Robin Hood Hotel, and says guests can expect a mix of genres. “I’m predominantly a blues and soul singer but I’m into rock and I love singing ballads and country music as well... we just fly by the seat of our pants and let the punters dictate where we go with it.”

That freewheeling attitude helped make her previous appearance at Eastside Happy Hour a huge success and she’s looking forward to another celebration of great local talent. “That was a lot fun,” she says. “We had a great time and they did an awesome job of making the place look fabulous so we’re really looking forward to this one.”

Eastside Happy Hour Extended takes place at Lambrook Wines on Saturday 23 October from 4.00 – 11.00pm.
