South Australia’s premier food festival is cooking up something special on Magill Road

19/04/2022

Every year, Tasting Australia is a chance for the nation’s leading culinary figures to shine a light on the very best food, wine and kitchen talent from right across South Australia. And after several pandemic-affected editions, the festival is back with a blockbuster lineup in 2022 including three incredible events at Republic on the corner of Magill Road and Osmond Terrace.

On Sunday May 1, The Chardy Party celebrates the most noble of all white wines with a Sunday soiree in the spacious beer garden. Choose between finely oaked numbers and lean, acid-driven chardonnays from across the state and country, then decide which one pairs best with a sumptuous platter of fresh seafood including freshly shucked Coffin Bay oysters, delicious tuna sashimi and succulent king prawns from Port Lincoln.

If you prefer reds, Thursday May 5 is the big day when the We Know Pinot battle pits the very best South Australian drops against their leading competitors from across the Tasman. Descend into an atmospheric 140-year-old cellar filled with winemakers determined to persuade you that their region is the true home of pinot, grab a cheese platter and learn the secrets behind each winery’s specialities then fill your glass and taste your way through the most elegant expressions from each region.

And when it’s time for a feed, the extravagant Over the Fire Pit Feast has you covered. Join executive chef Chris Wotton as he transforms the freshest ingredients from across the state into a lavish three-course banquet where everything is touched by fire. Tendrils of smoke, glowing coals and spectacular open flames will all feature in the cooking process at Tasting Australia’s hottest event, with each course joined by an equally impressive wine matching in an unforgettable evening on Wednesday May 4.
