It’s that time of the year again. When the flowers bloom, the weather is a touch warmer and horse racing events are on the calendar.
That’s right, spring time sees the Spring Racing Carnival, spring in to action and brings with it horse racing and a swag of events – which means outfits are needed, stat.
While there’s plenty of boutiques on The Parade to pick out your perfect outfit, iconic tailor Riccardo Di Fabio is your best bet to get your suits and dress wear refitted and sized. The shop, opened in late 2016 on The Parade and specialises in men’s and women’s tailored suits. Perfect race attire!
We caught up with the tailoring king (with over 55 years experience), Riccardo Di Fabio, to chat about what’s in for the Spring Racing Carnival.
“For men - a good quality suit is important. A three-piece suit consisting of a jacket, vest and trouser will never go out of style. Don’t be afraid to accessorise with a matching pocket square and tie,” Di Fabio says before continuing.
“And for women? Dressing classic is always a winner. It would have to be a navy blazer with cream pants and blouse,” he concludes.
Five Minutes With Riccardo Di Fabio
Tell us about how you got into tailoring…
I was born in Castellino del Biferno, Italy in September 1945. I was inspired by a tailor who worked across from my house, and after school my mother would send me there to learn the art of tailoring. I undertook a 4 years apprenticeship in the region of Molise, Italy before migrating to Adelaide, Australia at the age of 17 in 1963. I worked for various tailors in Adelaide and then in 1971 I went into partnership in a tailoring business. In 1978 my brother (who was also a tailor) and I opened up Di Fabio Bros Tailors on Pulteney Street and the store remained open until 2015.
Why did you choose to open a space on The Parade, Norwood?
I have been a resident in Norwood for over 50 years, and have always wanted to open up locally, to service my local community.
